Peter Heisig

Dr. Peter Heisig, Senior Researcher at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge has worked on knowledge management for 20 years. Currently he is working in a British-funded research project on “Knowledge and Information Management through the product life cycle” with eleven universities and companies like ABB, Airbus and Rolls-Royce.
Before joining the University of Cambridge, he was responsible for the Competence Centre Knowledge Management at Fraunhofer IPK (Berlin, Germany) where he designed and implemented KM solutions in industrial and service companies as well as public administration and research organisations. In 2005 he started his own business consulting organisations about Knowledge Management, Innovation and Intellectual Capital Statements.

In 2002 he was appointed by the CEN and DG Information Society as European KM Expert to work on the first “European Guide to Good Practice in Knowledge Management” (CWA 14924). He also served to work on the Guideline “KM in Engineering” of the German Association of Engineers (VDI).

He conducted his first European-wide Benchmarking study on Knowledge Management in 1998 which was funded by six German companies. He acted as KM Subject Matter Expert for a Benchmarking Study with the TECTEM at University St. Gallen in 2001.

Dr. Heisig earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from the Technical University Berlin about “Integration of Knowledge Management into Business Processes”. His GPO-WM method has been applied by large companies like Unilever, Degussa AG, Voest alpine and Fraunhofer Society but also by small and medium companies.

He has spoken at conferences and workshop in China, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Mexico, Sweden, Switzerland and UK. He is Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Knowledge Management and published more than 50 articles about Knowledge Management. He regularly teaches about KM at the University Lecce (Italy) and Donau-University Krems (Austria).
